Our Mission
The mission of this web site is to provide an alternate viewpoint on what the problems are at Two Rivers Baptist Church. All that people have heard has either come from the pulpit or from the media. Neither of these sources are providing the full story as to what is really going on at Two Rivers. In fact, most of the information from these two sources is inaccurate.
Since the entire truth is not being told either from the pulpit or from the media, we felt that we needed to provide a website from which to tell things from our perspective.
The church paying for daughter's wedding receptions and suits for interns is just the tip of the iceberg. There are many, many other instances of poor stewardship (best case) and possible fraud (worse case). The financial problems that we face as a church are just one facet of the overall issue of poor management by the Senior Pastor. Jerry Sutton likes to state that he is the "CEO" of the church. Our position is that a CEO of a company with the performance results of Two Rivers Baptist Church would have been released long ago for "poor performance". However, the Senior Pastor and staff "spin" the current state of the church to retain their positions of power and employment respectively.
"Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." - Abraham Lincoln
In addition to poor fiscal management, the Senior Pastor rules with an iron fist and has essentially taken absolute power. It is his way or the highway and he makes all major decisions, regardless of what he or the staff tells you. This is why so many staff members have left over the years and it is why the current staff is too scared to challenge him on even the smallest issue. This is why laypeople who have questioned him have lost their teaching positions, been asked to stop singing in the choir, or had their committee position eliminated. It was never intended that one person have this much control in the church and it does not foster a healthy environment for growth and outreach among the staff or the congregation.
Our goal is simple - we want the executive leadership of the church to be truthful to the membership, be good stewards of church funds, have an open books policy in dealing with church finances, and to return the church to a congregation controlled (not staff controlled) body.
The Senior Pastor has shown a disregard for the truth. We are here to hold him accountable for this sin and to tell the WHOLE TRUTH.
"And you shall know the truth, and the truth will make you free"
- John 8:32
